Drop In Dow Industrial Average

The sudden drop in the Dow Industrial Average yesterday was especially alarming to me as I often wonder if we are heading towards an economic recovery or are we on the verge of a deeper recession. If you couple this event with the thousands of barrels of oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico it is difficult to maintain a positive outlook especially as we enter the summer driving season.

Frugality and family become more important as we do what we can to prepare for the worst while hoping for the best. Maybe we delay the purchase of big ticket items or shop for sale and discounts on products we use everyday.  We may decide that we can mend or repair items that we would have replaced a few years ago or lend our friends and neighbors household items that we do not currently need. I believe it is important to do what we can to help each other though difficult times even if it is just offering emotional support to those who are struggling.
